The Face Can Tell All
Body language isn’t just limited to our posture, arms and legs. Our facial expressions can also enhance what we say or give entirely the wrong impression. There are several cues that one can look for in one’s face to ascertain if that person is being entirely truthful. There are also facial gestures one can make to enhance one’s point and drive it home further. In this article, we will look at facial expressions and how to use them. We will also look at certain facial expressions to watch out for.
Ever consider smiling more? When you smile, you tend to put others at ease. They can see the sense of friendliness that you project when you give them a smile. The only time a smile will backfire is if it isn’t meant. The so called tense or forced smiles are usually picked up quite quickly. They also make a person look very phony and insincere.
Frowns also project a message that is usually anger or aggression. When someone is frowning at you, it is quite easy to figure out what they mean. They most likely are not happy with you for some reason.
The next time you speak to someone see how much eye contact they make. When you establish and maintain eye contact with someone, this gives the message that you can be trusted. If your tell them something while maintaining eye contact, they are much more likely to accept what you say as the truth. It takes a great lier or psychopath to hold eye contact and be untruthful.
When maintaining eye contact, be careful not to stare at someone. This looks very stressful and makes the other person uneasy. It also makes your eye contact looked forced which will give a feeling of dishonesty. If you are speaking to someone when you are outside, try to avoid sunglasses. This makes for a very awkward situation. When the other person cannot see your eyes they may think that you are hiding something.
Your facial expressions can either work for or against you. If you use them correctly, you can enhance what you say and put the other person at ease. If you use them incorrectly, it could spell disaster.
