Body Language Hand Gestures

Body language is something that comes naturally to us as a way to communicate with others.  We use body language in all kinds of settings even when we do not realize that we are communicating.  A common way in which individuals communicate via body language is through the use of hand gestures.  The use of hand gestures as a form of body language is something that can be native to all individual a human beings as a whole or as a part of a prescribed set of gestures reflective of ones specific culture.  In American culture, there are many, many hand gestures that have been prescribed to our culture.

Hand gestures as acts of body language are often derived from a sign related to that which the gesture is speaking of.  Take, for instance, the body language hand gesture of pointing at something.  Pointing in the direction of something is a pretty clear way of describing nonverbally to another the area or item that they are referencing.  Or, consider, for instance, the body language hand gesture of slicing ones throat.  This clearly indicates a nonverbal rendition of someone having been beheaded or even just killed in some general way.
