Bored Body Language
This is not just a case of dissecting individual body language clues, but, the entire body is basically telling you that the person is simply bored and if you are trying to persuade or dissuade them from any activity, you might as well be talking to a brick wall.
The body language of boredom may seem inconsequential in every day dealings with people, but, it is one of the most disguised language centres.
The three key body language queues are distraction, repetition and tiredness. When a person seems distracted it is not that they are truly busy with whatever activity they were doing; but, in fact a bored person will purposely find other things to do, like doodling, talking to someone else or watching a clock. Whatever types of distractions you are encountering from the person you are trying to talk with, chances are they are bored. Bored people often repeat some actions as tapping their foot, swinging their feet, twiddling their fingers and this may actually heighten in repetition if the bored person doesn’t think you actually understand. The third distinct sign of boredom comes into play as a signal of tiredness. If a person cannot relieve their feelings of boredom, their entire body will reflect this by way of slouching in a seat, leaning against a wall or simply sagging where they stand.
There are many reasons for boredom, ranging from disinterest and readiness. Being ready does sound like a contradiction to the body language of being bored, but, a person who is bored may in fact display signs of actually being ready for the actions that you want, such as in closing a sale. The worst offenders of this are sales people who tend to keep their sales pitch going on long after the customer has displayed signs of wanting to sign off on the deal. A bored person will also show signs of being disinterested in their surroundings and generally in what is going on at that point in time. This is when you may start to see the readiness sign creeping in as the disinterested individual may feign interested in an attempt to disguise their actual interest.
