Body Language and Intimacy

Body language is typically used in all kinds of relationships, but those in close interpersonal relationships will demonstrate body language acts that are highly indicative of their heightened intimacy level.  Body language is the way in which we use our bodies to convey messages to our communication partners.  We do this in a variety of ways from the proximity we space between ourselves and others, the gestures we use and the eye contact we maintain with others.  However, close interpersonal partners will typically demonstrate a strong set of body language behaviors to show that they are closely linked.  Typically, these body language acts of communication follow a pattern observed and recorded within the discipline of body language studies.

Of course when we are less familiar with someone our body language behaviors are not usually in sync.  As relationships progress, however, body language acts between couples in a close relationship will usually grow along with that union.  Take, for instance, a romantic pair who has been together for a year or two.  The individuals in that relationship will often stand closely together.  This body language act signifies to he relationship partners and others, as well, that the two individuals are together as a couple.  Additionally, individuals in a close relationship will often utilize the body language act of extended eye contact as a reflection of their close ties.
